"And they lived happily ever after..."

Now I'm the LAST person to knock a good chick flick. I love them, I own tons of them, I spend money to see them in the theaters, sometimes multiple times. BUT (there's always a but), as I have grown older, I've realized the unrealistic expectations that they've helped me set in my life. I love the idea that boy meets girl and they fall in love and everything goes as planned minus one little setback here or there that they always overcome to live in bliss. But let's be honest, does it really ever work out like that? Maybe I'm just ultra cynical... go figure. But as I've seen it, most people, though they're happy with their lives and have good things happen to them, don't ride away into the sunset free of any kind of molestation or worry. But then again, I hated Becoming Jane because things didn't work out nice and clean with everyone happy. I suppose that the reason we all love our chick flicks so much is that it's an escape from life, it shows how things would happen in a perfect world. It gives us the opportunity to forget, if just for 2 or so hours, that we have to pay our bills, go the grocery store and clean the bathroom. Life would be terrible if we didn't have things like that to look forward to, dull and boring. It's a good thing that there's addicts like me to pay millions of dollars into the industry to keep it going...

Hi Mal! I didn't get your message until late last night. I wish I could have been there to hang out with the girls. Next time for sure! I actually sent you a text message last night, but realized that I probably sent a text message to your home phone, hehe. I hope you had fun! Love you lots!

I hated Becoming Jane! I totally agree with the distorted outlook we have on life because of those movies....however with that being said I believe I found my Mr. Darcy, so I do believe fairytales come true....Movies are the best escape we have. They should all end happily ever after!

I love a good chick flick too (don't tell anyone, they might take away my man card), and I agree that they give us unrealistic expectations. But it's a nice fantasy.
