Reason #1272 why I love my job...

Because yesterday whilst tutoring a fabulous football player

I was able to relate hierarchical government
to

FOOTBALL.

And it was epic.

After doing so, it was amazing to watch his face as he understood and I was once again reminded why I love to teach.

Have yourself a merry little Monday...

As a rule, I usually don't care for Mondays all the much but today is the first day of my official winter break and where am I spending it, you ask? Well, on the 6th floor of Rice-Eccles Stadium of course. See, there are lots of reason why I love my job, but one of them is the fact that since I'm working today and NO ONE is in the office, I can kinda do whatever I want. I've already checked all the holds, returned all the messages, checked my email, and about a million other little things, so until someone decides to call us up and ask questions, I'm on my own. It's a foggy morning and you can't even see the scoreboard outside the window behind me, let alone the parking lot outside the one in front. It's better than a cloudy day because my office is still light. I have all the shades pulled up on the windows and the heater going. There's a whole bag of Cadbury Christmas eggs on my desk and all in all, life is good. Here's to having myself a merry little Monday.

Workin'...

So since it's fall break, one of the other receptionists at work went to Hawaii and the other is going to Arizona. This means that I get to be at work for a good portion of my break. I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but I basically have the best job known to man. It's true. I get paid to watch football games and to play on facebook while answering the phones. Plus, I work with some great people. I'd never tell them that of course, because a bunch of them are guys and it'd go to their heads. Quickly. Today when I came in, I discovered that on Friday I am scheduled to spend the day with Dave and Leif because everyone else is gone. They informed me that we're going to make paper airplanes and throw a hard drive down the stairwell. With a camera inside so we can see the distruction from a first hand persepective. Best. Job. Ever.

Happy...

You know those times where you're just happy? For no particular reason, happiness has decided to settle it's self upon you and let's be honest, you're grateful for it? Today is one of those days. I'm just happy. There's not a specific event that has contributed to it, no exact person, it's a general thing. I think that part of it has to do with the fact that my dreaded Spanish presentation is over and done with for the semester. That was a huge load to get it out of the way, because let's be honest my Spanish teacher is scary. But it's spring now, and that makes evil Spanish teachers not matter as much. My friend Julina got her mission call today and I'm so excited for her. My headache is better today, which makes things much happier. Basically, there's just lots of really great things. While I'm at it, I'll tell you a few more, because let's be honest, who doesn't want to hear about great things?

*Contracts are selling like crazy at work
*My apartment is actually staying clean, which is a miracle in and of it's self
*It's Thursday which is my absolute favorite day of the week
*I get to watch The Office tonight, I love The Office, a little Jim and Pam makes the world a better place, plus, come on, how could I forget Dwight?
*I get to have a friend in my office again today. Sherry and I have fun when we get to work together
*I only have 105 Spanish problems to do, but it's all subjunctive, I love subjunctive.
*I made a new mix last night that is amazing and I have time to listen to it at work. I love music.
*I ONLY have 3 exams next week, which could be 4, so I'm looking on the bright side.

Isn't my life seriously SO blessed? I'm almost as happy as TAMN...

A Macey's-Less Exsistance...

Okay, so I'm the blogging slacker of all time. I know it's true. I won't deny it. You see the problem has been that Macey's is taking over my life. It's true. I spend more time thinking about, worrying about and being at my job then I do anything else. So I've made a very big decision. It's monumental...Life changing if you will. I am separating myself from Macey's. As of Thursday July 31, 2008 I will no longer be an employee if Mr. Macey (just for all of you who don't know, there really isn't a Mr. Macey, it's just kind of a Macey's joke. I didn't want anyone to be lost). It all happened in such an odd way. I was sitting in the break room at my beloved Macey's one day when I received an interesting phone call. The girl on the other end introduced herself as Chantelle, and she worked for the apartment complex that I would be moving into in the fall. I asked if there was a problem with my application or my contract or something. I was kind of freaked out because this was the second complex that I was supposedly going to live in this fall, the second because the first had sold my contract without telling me. She laughed and told me not to worry that everything was fine and she had called to offer me a job. Since I was sitting in the break room with about a gagillion people, I figured that this wasn't exactly the most ideal place for this discussion. Once I'd extracted myself from the break room, I got a little more info. The girl who was managing Roman Gardens (where I was moving into) was getting married in the middle of August and they needed to find her replacement. Chantelle and I had talked about my contract over the phone a couple of weeks before and she had been impressed with how happy and bubbly I was (who knew that would finally pay off) and asked if I wanted to come and interview for the spot. So, to make a long story short, I did and now I have a real college job. I've never worked somewhere that I had set hours (2-6 on week days and 10-1 on Saturdays), didn't work more then 7 hours a day and that I could do my homework when it was slow at work. I am so excited!! The best part is (are you ready for this? I think we need a drum roll....DRUM ROLL PLEASE!) they pay my rent, utilities, and communications fees PLUS they pay me for the time I spend in the office. It's less an hour then Macey's, BUT since they pay my rent I don't have to worry about it! Isn't that amazing?! I think so. So here's a so long, farewell, aufwieterzan (like I really know how to spell that, and if you do, don't tell me, I like to be creative) GOODBYE to Macey's and it's life taking over abilities! Hello to my sweet new job!

When there's only me...

Okay, so I've been lame with the postings...I know it's true. I've been working a whole lot (and I'm not using that as an excuse, it really is true, as anyone who has regular contact with me will testify to you...I should just put a bed in the break room at Macey's, it would be better on gas then driving home each night for a couple hours of sleep before I go back), partly because I'm now a work dork and I don't really have too much of a life anymore. Most of my friends work at Macey's, which is great but it makes my life even more Macey's centered. And then there's the whole subject of boys. I know that all those sweet ladies mean well:
Sweet Ladies: "Oh dear, you've been home a little while now, are you dating anyone?" (this is where they always do that eye brow wiggle..like they're expecting you to say something slight scandalous...)
Me: "No, not really. I'm working a lot so that I can pay for school in the fall."
Sweet Ladies: "That's such a shame, you're so cute!"
Me: (slightly red faced) "Oh well thanks..."
How do you explain to someone why no one wants to date you? How do you explain that in your life, things seem to stop in that netherworld where there's something going on and it's enough to think about and and to kinda hold on to, but not enough to talk to anyone about? How do you explain that it's usually the odd creepy guys that just stare at you or insult you while trying to compliment you that ask you out, not the kind that you would actually go out with? Or how do you explain that you're really okay with how things are going in your life right now and that you're still adjusting to the whole being home from a mission thing? I've thought of a few things to say...but either they're too mean or they don't make too much sense...I'm sure there will be most posts dealing with this subject the longer I'm home and unmarried...tune in next time...
