Overheard @ the Mecham Family Thanksgiving....

My family is hilarious. Don't believe me? Read on.
Side note, as well as potentially useful information: we had a couple of kids who are from New York where my little brother served his LDS mission come to visit for the weekend, J.R. and Mike. They are prominently featured in this piece.

Mama Mecham: "I didn't make a Jello salad for dinner tomorrow. Do you think that's okay?"
Me: "Mom, just because we live in Utah does not mean you need to make a Jello."

Me: "Yeah, they called it Little Tijuana."
J.R.: "What is Tijuana?"

While watching the Texas/Texas A&M game on Thanksgiving.
Mama: "Stop. We only touch our own butts."

During a game of Phase 10 which got so intense that Mama Mecham came down from her cozy bed to moderate.
Mama Mecham: "It's okay, J.R. Some days you wake up in the morning and think, 'Today, I'm just not a winner.'"

Same intense game of Phase 10, but now Papa Mecham is playing...
J.R.: (Insert snarky comment to Mal here)
Papa Mecham lays down a skip card: I protect my young.

Cramin: It's okay, J.R. is a mentally abused shut in.

As we were making deviled eggs. Mama was clearing the eggs shells as we peeled them..
Squeegee: (Looking into her bowl, panicked) "Where did my egg shells go?!"

Mike: "Yeah, last week while he was waiting in line for a basketball game, he made me bring him a sweatshirt."
Cramin: "So basically you're not his roommate, you're his mom?"
J.R.: "I was freezing! And I met him half way!"
Mike: "Yeah, not really..."

While playing a game of electronic Life.
Karlie, reading from her Life card: "Choose another player to be in a band with you."
J.R.: "Ohhhh! Pick me!!"
Mike: "Why would you pick him! He doesn't even play an instrument!! I play the bag pipes!"
J.R.: "Yeah, like that's useful in a band!"

Was your Thanksgiving as entertaining as mine?

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year...

It's no secret that I adore fall. It's also no secret that I adore snow. Yes, you can blame me for praying for it on a regular basis as soon as November 1st hits. I'm sorry, but it's the truth. Don't hate me. Anyway, as I was driving to work this afternoon I was flipping through the radio channels and FM100 has already started playing Christmas music (which I'm morally opposed to. I am my father's daughter through and through on this one. No Christmas until after Thanksgiving) and heard the end of my all-time, most favorite, played-on-repeat-all-season-long Christmas song: I'll Be Home For Christmas. And even though I detest listening to Christmas music before Thanksgiving, I let it play. It was snowing and I was all warm and stuggley in my car (feeling perfectly safe driving thanks to my new tires and my wonderful daddy) and I remembered once again how much I love this time of year. I love that I have an excuse to go home a lot to do things like make candy with my mom or for family Christmas parties. I love that EVERY time I go home my whole house smells like cinnamon. I love that finals are almost here and that means the semester is almost over. Basically the ONLY downside to all this is that is ends too fast. So here's the the start of my very favorite time of the year....

The Giving of the Thanks...

So friends, this is my first major holiday at home...I don't really count the 4th of July...by holiday I mean HOLIDAY. Christmas, New Years, Thanksgiving...Those are holidays... Anyway... I am so excited to be home for Thanksgiving this year. I LOVE Thanksgiving. Getting the family together, eating at my Aunt Melissa's house, my mom begging my dad to let us listen to Christmas music already. I love that it's cold enough for me to wear a coat and to see my breath in the morning when I wake up. I love that my sisters and I got to have our traditional Thanksgiving Eve sleepover where we watch Gilmore Girls and drink Dr. Pepper while eating junk food. For some reason, this year especially, I feel like I have so much more to be grateful for than in other years. Maybe it's because I'm older and therefore I have a better concept of what I have in my life... But I just wanted to share with you all a few things that I feel like are blessings in my life:

* My family...They're crazy ,but they're mine.
* My testimony. I love that my faith in the Lord has grown since I've been home. I love the concept that we never stop growing. what an amazing gospel this is.
* My roommates. They're always there for me when I need someone, each of them is unique and special, but that's what makes things work.
*My glam job. Okay, so it's not so glam, but it means that I get to spend this weekend relaxing and hanging out with my family.
*The rain. Silly, but so me. I love rain and I feel like it was my own tender mercy that it rained tonight. :)
*My friends. I've been so lucky to find good friends and to have them around (if you have the address to my blog then you can consider yourself part of this... :))
*I know I already said my family, but I have to do a special shout out for my mom and my sisters. They're so special to me. I'd be lost without them, they really are my best friends.

So there you have it, just a few things I'm grateful to have... Since we all should be giving thanks...I mean at least we're not Indians who had our lands stolen...(name the Gilmore Girls episode...) HAPPY DAY OF GIVING THANKS!!
