Oh heeey...

You wanna know something I'm best at?

Forgetting to blog.

And now Eli, who is totally blog famous despite his complete and total inability to properly learn to use simple technology (like the camera on his cell phone), has mentioned me on his blog. You should probably read the post. (But after you've finished reading this one. I need the attention.) If only because I'm mentioned and that means that my list of life goals are now half as long. I can safely cross: "Find a way to get yourself mentioned on Eli's blog so you can feel special" off. Which means that I now have to write something fantastic just in case someone makes their way over here expecting to be entertained.

In all reality, it feels to good to have accomplished something worthwhile despite the fact that the last two weeks of life have pretty much been a complete wash when it comes to productivity. Turns out? Getting your tonsils yanked? It makes one extremely tired. And sore. And grouchy. And sick of watching TV. Who knew? I found something very important out about myself in these last two weeks: I am far too achievement oriented to be a good sick person. I drove everyone around me batty. I'm lucky that my family loves me. Particularly my madre and my sisters. One day, while fairly high on some sort of lovely drug that was 100% prescribed to me by a licensed medical professional, I tried to do laundry. I'm sure that it was extremely entertaining to watch a girl who couldn't walk in a straight line if her life depended on it stumble back and forth from the laundry basket to her closet. Hey, I'm nothing if not entertaining. Now, dear readers, I'm mostly healed and back at my lovely place of work. It feels absolutely fantastic to be DOING something again.

Update me on what's going on in your worlds. I need comments. The doctor said it would help my throat heal faster.

By way of an update....

I survived graduation (hooray) and as present from the karma gods, I woke up with the plague Saturday morning. Which now means I've spent that last two days in bed doing absolutely nothing but watching lots of episodes of Castle and eating mint M&Ms.

However, I have my priorities straight: despite graduation looming like a nasty dark cloud over my world, I did make time to see The Avengers at midnight on Thursday/Friday. It was amazing. Actually, amazing doesn't even begin to cover it. There are no words. Because, let's be honest, Chris Hemsworth's arms can't be described by any words that the English language has created. There was some definite thought put towards making a shrine in Joss Whedon's honor for his brilliance in writing and directing such an incredible movie... Can you tell that I liked it just a little bit?

Top 10 Reasons I'm Sick of Being Sick...

Have you wondered where I've been? All two of you that actually check this blog looking for updates. I know  you've been concerned for my safety. I think I even heard whisperings of a search party being sent out on my behalf; but fear not, good readers, this blogger is alive and mostly well. That's right. I've got my second case of the plague in three short weeks. Since I love to make lists (and I'm bored stiff after spending 2 days in bed), here's a list of the top 10 reasons I know I'm sick of being sick.

10) I have spent approximately 10 hours pinning useless things on Pinterest.
9) I actually went through a whole gallon of orange juice. (I hate orange juice).
8)I watched all of He's Just Not That Into You, not just the parts with Alex and Gigi like I (or any sane person) normally do.
7) I actually took 2 days off of work to stay in bed.
6) I've been in bed before 10 pm for the last three nights.
5) I'm all caught up on every single TV show I watch and my DVR is completely clear.
4) I haven't cleaned my kitchen or vacuumed in three days.
3) I wore my pajamas to Noodles & Co. yesterday to get chicken noodle soup
2) I didn't even care when two overly quaffed, overly waxed and overly dressed guys pointed and laughed at my black and white snowflake pj pants and bright pink hoodie, which were paired with my brown slippers. Yup, I'm classy.

and reason number #1 that I'm sick of being sick:

1) I actually watched an entire season of NCIS and now a little bit bored with Gibbs & Co. It's not their fault, you see. But when a girl only leaves the house twice in a couple of days, she starts to feel like she's trapped inside. And then she gets bored with even the most exciting things.

So I beg of you, dear neglected readers, tell a girl something exciting.

(Also, I finally updated my quotes of the week. Be excited.)

A quote...

Remember how I haven't had the plague in months? Remember how I was SO incredibly excited to realize this? Remember how Sara the Theatre Fairy and I were just commenting on how great it was that I hadn't been sick? And who comes down with the plague about 2:30 yesterday afternoon? You've got it right. This girl. This means that my energy is at an all time low so all I have for you, dear readers, is this brilliant quote:

Isn't that just a lovely thought? It also makes me want to burst out into "Do You Believe in Magic" by the Lovin' Spoonful, but I'll save your ears. Anyway, I'm off to create more Excel spreadsheets. Can I just say, I love getting paid to organize someone else's life? It's fab.

...

Do you, my darling readers, remember how I was supposed to be free from my retched tonsils next Thursday? I was counting down the days. Honest. I was ready to make myself one of those old school paper chains and everything. To finally be free from getting the plague on a VERY regular basis? Eat nothing but Popsicles and Jamba Juice for a week? Lay on my padres' down-filled couch and watch every BBC miniseries that I could get my hands on? Convince Max and Cole to rub my feets because I'm sick? Bliss. I mean, the whole excruciating pain thing is a minus, but what's a little pain in the grand scheme of keeping my voice? I'm glad to see that you share my perspective on this. Imagine my horror and devastation when I received a phone call last Friday afternoon informing me that I hadn't been on my insurance long enough to have the surgery. It turns out that NORMAL insurance companies require you to be covered for one year prior to any surgery. Reasonable, right? Well, my luck is not so great. Mine requires you to be covered for 18 months, and that won't happen until JUNE. Since it's my parents' insurance, I get kicked off when I turn 26, which happens in MAY.  See the conundrum? This is not my happy face. I made calls. My dad made calls. I begged. He pleaded. To no avail. These vestigial organs are staying firmly and infectiously inside my throat. I had some monies saved up so as to pay for my life while I was languishing on that lovely couch, so yesterday I made a decision. I was going to spend it. Now don't freak, not all of it. But I was mad and when I'm mad one of my favorite things to do is shop. Since I have a huge job interview tomorrow (all prayers are appreciated), new dress pants were definitely in order. I'm pretty sure that the only good thing that has come out of this whole mess are those pants. I won't lie to you; my butt has never looked better.

Did you know...

Did you know that it is physically impossible for me to walk down a set of stairs? I bounce. Which is why I've twisted both of my ankles so many times that the muscles are like rubber bands.

Did you know that in one week I went to the ballet, the theatre and the symphony? It's true and I loved every single second of each one. Huzzah for the arts!

Did you know that The Sleeping Beauty was the last full ballet that I danced in? I was the jester since I was a much better character dancer than anything else. The hat that I wore as part of my costume came all the way from Russia. The company director saw it in the airport and told me that it practically screamed my name. Too bad I didn't get to keep it. I would have worn it all over the place. It kinda  looked like this:

I jingled when I walked. It was fab.

Did you know that this is quite possibly the single most incredible show that I've seen in my life? It almost beats Macbeth. It's tragic that it only ran on Broadway from September 2008 until November 2008.

Did you know the February 19th is the anniversary of the beginning of the Battle of Iwo Jima? It lasted from 19 February until 26 March 1945. It was kind of a big deal, you might have heard of it or something.

Did you know  that it is possible to talk entirely in lines for plays and movies? It is. Ask Sara. We do it regularly.

Did you know that Stephanie J. Block played Elphaba in the national tour of Wicked? I saw her perform tonight at Abravanel Hall and I can now die a happy girl. She was spectacular.

Did you know that I'm one of only 8 people who's never seen Wicked on stage? Julia Murney informed me of that tonight.

Did you know that President Monson goes to the symphony? I definitely saw him there tonight. He's adorable.

Did you know that in 7th grade we sang My Heart Will Go On in choir and a bunch of the girls burst into tears? I wouldn't kid about something as ridiculous as that. I still can't hear that song without wanting to pull a Vincent Van Gogh. Naturally it would only be the one ear, I need the other hear to hear the music from Tale of Two Cities over and over again.

Did you know that John Kander and Fred Ebb wrote "Ring Them Bells" as a stand alone song for Liza Minnelli?

Did you know that "Don't Rain on My Parade" is my theme song?

Did you know that I collect headbands? And things that are polka dot? And argyle? And shoes? Oh my!

Did you know that I have the plague again? That's probably why this post is so stinking random. Pray March 17th gets here quick and they take these offending tonsils out of me so I can keep my voice for longer than a few weeks at a time?

Remember that one time...

when I woke up and my eyes were swollen shut? I do, because it was this morning. Yup yup. I look like I've been crying my eyes out for days on end. I know what you're thinking. "How delightful! I'm so jealous! I've always wanted to attempt to open my eyes in the morning and have the lids stick together!"
I assure you it was a lovely feeling.

Also, remember that one time that I found out that they're going to pull my tonsils out of my throat? I do. It was yesterday. Which was all sorts of fun and exciting. Especially after they told me how much fun it's going to be. Who ever heard of feeling worse 7 days after you have surgery than you did the day after? That's a bunch of junk.

Last but so far from least, remember that one time that I completely passed my math class? There was joy and celebration and all sorts of goodness. It was the best Christmas present that I've ever gotten (okay, maybe not better than Yoda or the purse that Squeegee gave me, but pretty close).

Dearest, darlingest readers,

Lately I've been pretty much stumped on what to write on my blog, which naturally means that I'm sick again. It's sad but true. I haven't had a voice to speak of (ha ha ha ha! I am so funny. In reality, I love how lame some of my jokes are. At least give me a pity laugh, I'm sick) since Monday night and I'm coughing up a storm. (Oh the bad puns I could come up with for that one! I'll spare you the anguish because I don't want to lose readers.) During this creative slump I've continued with my nerd trend and watched some Star Trek (oh the joy of Captain Kirk) and a whole lot of Star Wars (Ewen McGregor with a lightsaber? Drool) while eating pretzel M&Ms (you haven't had them? Yeah, we can't be friends anymore. You better go and try some. They're not even that bad for you, trust me). Also I've been spending quite a bit of time at work due to the delight that is football season. Let me tell you, it's a party in a bag trying to answer the phone when you can barely speak above a whisper.
In much happier news, my fantastic little brother (who I love and adore) is coming home in 5 (count them 5!!!) days and I'm not excited at all. Okay, that's a complete lie. I'm bouncing off the walls. We thought that he was going to have to extend an extra two weeks due to some complications with other missionaries coming into his mission from the MTC, but tonight my padres called me while I was having a scrumptious dinner with my favorite DVD pusher, Megan at this most incredible pizza place here in Sugarhouse and told me that my favorite missionary will indeed be home in 5 days. Let the countdown begin!
So that's my update. I know that it's not exciting or magical, but it is what it is. Share some of your lovely news with me to tide me over during my excitement drought.

Loves!

Playing hide and seek...

Apparently, my voice has decided to play a little game of hide and seek. It and my sanity have gone. I've searched high and low, but to no avail. If you find either, please return them quickly. I'm quite at a loss.

I'm pretty sure...

...that I'm getting sick. What tipped me off, you may ask?
Was it being exhausted even after a decent amount of sleep?
No.
The scratchy throat (and subsequent loss of my voice)?
Nope.
Headache?
Not even close.
The fact that I haven't made my bed in...gasp...2 days?
Naaah. (Though that IS odd).
My not craving Diet Coke, chocolate chip cookies OR butter cream frosting?
No sir (or ma'am depending on who you are)

Are you sick of guessing yet?
Alright alright. I'll just tell you.
Drum roll please...

I was at a complete loss as to what to write about on my blog.
I couldn't come up with anything witty, snarky, mocking or hilarious.

It's a sad day.

Here's to hoping that I freaking hurry up and get better, because this lack of creativity is utterly pathetic.

Where Have I Been...

...you ask? Well. Let me just fill you in. I have been:

-at Rice-Eccles Stadium, answering phones.
-sick in bed, with no voice.
-at the Burb tutoring my two favorite basketball players.
-living on the 3rd floor of the Marriott Library with Liz.
-in PG visiting my amazing family.
-attempting to drive in the snow.
-teaching Sunday school.
-visiting Karlie Marie.
-Christmas shopping.
-wishing I was in some amazing foreign city instead of...
-taking comprehensive finals.
-writing a hugeola paper about South Africa.
-watching Chuck on Hulu (and Bones and Ugly Betty and Castle...I watch TV when I'm stressed, okay?!)

Where have YOU been?

My Crummy Cold...

So I've had this crummy cold. I hate having a cold. Anyone can have a cold. Just for once, I'd like to be able to say, 'Hey, I'm not feelin' so great, my leg is haunted.' (If you can name who actually said that, I'll make you a treat). Anyway, over the last week I've realized that I'm really lucky. I have had more people ask if they can do anything for me, go to the store and get me anything, take me anywhere than one could possibly imagine. When I get to work, Chantel asks me how I'm feeling. When I say, "Not so great." She sends me home. I am so blessed to have so many people who care about me and want to help me. So, thanks to all my loverly friends who take such good care of me. You guys are simply the best of the best!

Dear Cold of Mine...

I'm not too fond of the fact that you have decided to invade my lungs or my nose for that matter... You have given me a very sore throat and aided me in sounding like a teenage boy for the last few days. Please please go away. You really aren't welcome here. I have so much to do that your unwanted presence is really putting a damper on my week. You make it very hard for me to do my homework or to sleep at night. You've helped me to live on a steady diet of orange juice and cough drops, as well as the random soup my roommates make for me. You make my eyes burn and the feet cold. So if you would just please vacate my body, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.

Sincerely, but not lovingly:

Mal

Ib got a Cowd...

It's true. I have a cold. I've spent all day sneezing and sounding like a two pack a day smoker...(someone who shall not be named said that I really need to lay off the nicotine). They sent me home from work early...I've been watching lots of Gilmore Girls and going through tons of tissues. It's not all bad...Lor, Rory, Michel and Luke have been good company, I really do love the Rory and Jess seasons and I've gotten the chance to catch up on my blog and my facebook...And I got to wear my cute pink beanie while I did carts today at work on a count of all the snow. Also, Jourdan is bringing me Taco Amigo because I'm starving, but while you're on cold medicine you're not supposed to drive your brand new car (who I named Earnest, by the way, as in the Importance of...). Anyway, on the downside, I can't drive Earnest, who I love driving and I can't got to work, which is a bummer 'cause I really do love my job as strange as so many people think that is. Not breathing has a down side, and the voice thing is kind of a bummer since I really like to talk. I'm sure the I'll be better soon...at least that's what I keep telling myself (and have been telling myself since I got sick on Thursday...).
